As you know we love to travel, so do so every chance we get, including in the winter. For us a winter break is a treat, something that we look forward to, and do whenever we get the chance.
However, I know that for some of my readers taking a winter holiday is something they have not done yet. If you fall into that category, I really would encourage you to give it a go.
You do not even have to go far, or travel to somewhere sunny, to have a good time. Just taking a trip to your nearest city for the weekend is often enough to blow away the cobwebs and lift the spirits. It really is a great experience, but it is important to realise that travelling in the winter is a bit different to going on holiday in the summer.
Take for example the packing. You definitely have to take a different approach to what you put in your suitcase.
Even if you are going somewhere sunny, you need to be prepared for changeable weather. If you are hopping on a plane for a few hours and travelling to a southern destination, with a more temperate climate, you need to bear in mind that you could still have some cold or rainy days.
Therefore, you need to be prepared. It is wise to wear boots or closed in shoes, and a coat to the airport. That way if it rains while you are away you will have something to wear that will keep you warm and dry.
The key to packing for a winter break is to take layers of clothing. You will feel just as warm wearing three of four layers as you would wearing a t-shirt, with a heavy jumper over the top. If you pack layers of lightweight clothing rather than bulky clothes, you will get more items in your case, and as a result be better prepared.
However, I am not saying for a moment that you should only pack for bad weather. If you are travelling to a place with a good record for winter sun, you want to be ready and able to enjoy the warm days too.
Remember to pack a sun hat, sunglasses, sun block and some lightweight clothes for everyone. Regardless of what type of weather you are expecting while you are away, it is always worth taking your swimwear. That way if the weather is good everyone can go to the beach. If it is not you will be able while away a rainy afternoon, in an indoor swimming pool. Just be sure everyone tries his or her swimwear on before you pack it. That way if it is too tight you can replace it before you travel. For a great selection of swimwear, at fantastic prices, you just need to click the link.
