Last weekend we visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. I’ve mentioned it before on this blog because I am a bit of a fan. I’m mentioning it again because I harp on about things I like because it has temporary exhibition until January 2012 and if you live within distance it really is worth visiting. Summer is the perfect time to visit because it is what it says on the tin a park. We had a fabulous Sunday exploring the extensive parklands and the current exhibition; Jaume Plensa. Plensa is a Spanish artist, I can’t say meaningful things about art, but what I can say is that I found his work beautiful and arresting. My son loved the curtain of words, that he could make tinkle and the room of gongs which he could bong. He loved walking inside some of the pieces.
The thing a love about YSP is that it bridges the gap between great for children and great for adults; perfect for both.
The Yorkshire Sculpture Park has a new cafe at the Kennel Block it’s more informal and has a cheaper menu than the main restaurant and tables outside. There is lots of space to picnic if you bring your own food, but their food is definitely worth sampling.

The Jaume Plensa exhibition looks amazing. Beautifully tactile and interactive. I’m going to have to see if his work is coming down South at all. Thanks for this post xxx
You beat me to it Gem! We had a wonderful time & have taken similar photos so I’ll leave it for a while then post so that we can really promote it. I just wish I wasn’t so far away. Would go most week-ends if we were nearer!
This looks like a amazing place, now I have to figure how to fit it in. Lovely photo’s too 🙂 xxx
Wow! Love these sculptures (and your photos). We are lucky enough to have a permanent Jaume Plensa sculpture just down the road. It is settling in nicely now, and is all lit up at night. https://www.frecklesfamily.com/2010/05/dream/
