Having spent two weeks in Norfolk my current dream home is a flint cottage a short walk from the sea, holly hocks in the garden, small village life. This may change once I’ve spent a weekend in Cornwall in September.
There are some gorgeous villages on the Norfolk coast, I particularly loved Blakeney and Cley, pretty houses, lovely walks out to the coast, great pubs. Both has quality delicatessen, the Cley Smoke House and Westons of Blakeney both sell delicious fish, pates and crab. The sort of food it would be wonderful to have on your doorstep. I imagine myself buying fresh bread and crab pate for lunch, after a mornings walk through the salt marshes to the shore. The relaxed pace of a holiday, almost always gives me idea of an alternative lifestyle, a dream home somewhere else.
Every time we spend a weekend or a week away, we browse the Estate Agents windows “just to see” what’s on sale locally, how much things cost. Almost always there is some incredible dream home, in a fantastic location, acres of land, spacious interiors, amazing views and price tag.
A truly dream home is something bigger than a flint cottage, I’d love a Victoria Villa; high ceilings and shutters on tall windows, wooden floors, full of light. French doors out to the lawn, a beautiful garden with space enough for borders and a vegetable patch, maybe even chickens. Juliet balconies from the bedrooms. Plenty of room for friends to stay. It exists completely in my mind’s eye, sometimes I spot something just like it! I love our current house but it’s good to dream, to think about a possible step up in the future.
